St. John Fisher College; Executive Intern

stjohnfishercollegelogoLast fall, Fisher introduced a brand new initiative to bring motivated students into the executive office of the College. Seeing my high involvement and passion for Fisher, I decided it was only appropriate to compete for the position. From November ’16 to May ’17, I was the first executive intern for the marketing and communications department and I absolutely loved it.

Since it was a new program at Fisher, I worked together with the Marketing Director to establish four goals for the program, and my daily activities would usually coincide with one of the following:

1. Gain an understanding of the inner workings of the marketing department, its relationship with local agencies, and its role in the College as a whole.
2. Further develop as a professional writer in several contexts, including brochure and website copy, press releases, and media alerts.
3. Create a social media content calendar and research potential uses for additional social media platforms.
4. Further develop as a photographer and videographer, using these skills at multiple campus events.

Fortunately, since much of this work can be done digitally, I have been able to continue working for OSC remotely while away at school and from home after work. This requires me to optimize my communication skills to ensure that I am constantly on the same page as the rest of the company, even if I am not physically present.
